Student publications win seven NC College Media awards

The 2014-15 staff of The Campbell Times
CHAPEL HILL — Campbell University’s student publications brought home seven awards from the 2015 North Carolina College Media Association’s annual conference on March 1. The awards include a first-place “Best in Show” for The Campbell Times student newspaper and a “Best in Show” for The Pine Burr yearbook.
The Times also received two first-place individual awards in news writing and photography in the under-6,500 circulation division. The five total awards are the paper’s most since 2011.
“There are very talented and very big newspaper staffs in this state, so to be honored both as a team and as individuals is very exciting for these students,” said Billy Liggett, advisor for The Times. “I’m proud of Editor Sean Neal and the entire staff for their work so far this year.”
The Pine Burr’s “Best in Show” award was the publication’s second consecutive honor in the top category and third in the last five years.
“It takes a tremendous amount of coordination, writing, photography and design to produce the Pine Burr yearbook,” said Pine Burr advisor Haven Hottel. “These students have done a fantastic job of working together under deadline to document this school year for future generations. “
