Switchfoot to perform at Campbell University

Grammy-nominated rock band Switchfoot will be bringing their act to Campbell University this spring. The band is scheduled to perform Friday, April 13, 2007 at 7:00 p.m. at the intramural field on Highway 421.The San Diego-based band first earned acclaim among Christian pop music fans when it was formed in 1997. The band has since garnered quite a bit of attention in the mainstream music world.Their 2000 release “Learning to Breathe” earned the band a Grammy nomination and sold half a million copies. Their 2003 major-label effort “A Beautiful Letdown” went double platinum, followed by their 2005 release “Nothing is Sound,” which debuted at #3 on the Billboard 200 music charts.For the band’s latest release, “Oh Gravity,” Switchfoot worked with British producer Tim Palmer (The Cure, Pearl Jam).”I think we want to bring in bands that draw in people from the entire region,” said Chris O’Connor, Director of Student Activities at Campbell. “Students are excited about the concert. They want to have the kind of show that they can bring their friends to campus to see.”Campbell University will be hosting a Battle of the Bands contest on March 24. The winner will be given the opportunity to open the concert for Switchfoot and tourmates Reeve Oliver.Tickets are currently on sale:$5 Students, Advance.
