The Campbell drama “Quem Queritis” recalls medieval times

Buies Creek–acrobats, minstrels, magicians–these were the dramatists of the Middle Ages during the centuries after Greek drama disappeared and before the rise of the medieval drama. The Campbell University Theatre Arts Department will present “Quem Queritis: Whom Seek Ye?” an adaptation of several medieval plays by Bert Wallace, professor of Theatre Arts and the show’s director. The play will be performed Thursday, Friday and Saturday, April 17-19, at 8 p.m. in front of the Taylor Bott Rogers Fine Arts Center.Full of pageantry, medieval drama was slowly developed from what was at first a casual accompaniment to public worship. This new form was fostered by the Christian church and grew within the walls of the church until it was strong enough to support itself. It remained religious in subject and intent for a long while before after leaving the confines of the church.”Quem Queritis,” a play in two acts, chronicles the Bible from Adam and Eve and the Creation to the story of Noah, the crucifixion of Christ, the killing of the Saints and Revelation.General Admission tickets are $7 and $3 for students, faculty and staff. Members of the Cape Fear Friends of the Fine Arts receive two free tickets.
