The Campbell University Choir will present “Ireland Concert”

Buies Creek, N.C.—Fresh from a tour of Ireland, the Campbell University Choir will perform Tuesday, March 29, at 8 p.m. in Scott Concert Hall of the Taylor Bott Rogers Fine Arts Center. The concert will feature traditional Irish music and music with Lenten themes.

“Audience members will surely recognize much of this music,” said Choral Director Dr. Phillip Morrow. “From the internationally-known ‘Danny Boy’ and ‘Irish Blessing’ to less familiar ballads like ‘Johnny, I Hardly Knew Ye,’ an Irish war protest song, the choir will share some of the folk music from this magical land.”

In recognition of the liturgical season, the second part of the program highlights the music of Lent, said Morrow. There is a section that features music of other cultures such as a Thai folksong, a South African wedding song and a beautiful Scottish ballad.

The Campbell Voices will sing a lighter set and the program will also feature a couple of spirituals favored by audiences. The concert soloists include Catherine Kelly of Dunn, Lauren McCollister of Cambridge, Md., Katie Andrews of Valrico, Fla., Loren Aiken of Erwin, Micah Fields of Beaufort, and special guest Isabel Morrow.

“I’m quite sure that everyone will find something they really like on this program,” Morrow said. “It is my hope that our audience will be touched and inspired by this music.”

Frank Pittman is the accompanist for the choir. The concert is free and open to the public.
