Buies Creek–The Campbell University Theatre Arts Department will present an irreverent, fast-paced comedy, “The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged),” Feb. 14-16, and Feb 21-23, at 8 p.m. at Ellis Theatre in the Rogers Fine Arts Center. Tickets are $7 general admission and $3 for students. Tickets may be reserved by calling the Campbell University Box Office at 910.893.1509 or 800.334.4111, ext. 1509.”Warning: This show is a high-speed roller-coaster type of condensation of all of Shakespeare’s plays, and is not recommended for people with heart ailments or motion sickness,” said a 2004 review. This was the longest-running comedy in London theatre history. “The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged)” has been praised by the “Los Angeles Times” as “wildly funny” and “the funniest show you are likely to see in your entire lifetime,” according to the “Montreal Gazette.”Employing many performance genres, including a rap song outlining the plot of “Othello,” Complete Works condenses all 37 Shakespeare plays into a 90-minute performance. The show is a departure for Campbell University theatre, said Director Keith Hight.”If you’ve never liked Shakespeare, then this is the show to get interested in. If you like the Bard well, you might not afterwards. No really, it is a very fast-paced show,” Hight said. “We do ‘Titus’ as a cooking show, we rewrite all of the comedies into one and there is a five-second ‘Hamlet.'”The show features freshman Theatre Arts major Jon Fitts, of Raleigh, N.C.; Jeff McCumber, a sophomore Theatre Arts major from Goldsboro, N.C.; and Cameron Matt Coleman, a freshman Theatre Arts major from Cerro Gordo, N.C.For more information, contact Keith Hight, professor of Theatre Arts, at 910.893.1503 or 800.334.4111, ext. 1503.Photo Copy: Jon Fitts, left, and Matt Coleman, right, are “Romeo” and “Juliet” in Campbell University’s “The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged).
