RALEIGH — Campbell Law School has been selected as one of the top law schools in the country for practical training by The National Jurist. One of 86 institutions nationally to make the list, Campbell Law received the highest rating of any North Carolina law school. The distinction also marks Campbell Law’s first appearances on the list, another indicator of its continued rise in national recognition.
The complete list is available via The National Jurist website. The top 20 rankings will be unveiled in the March issue of the publication.
“We are glad that the word is getting out about the outstanding hands-on learning possibilities that are afforded to our students,” said Dean J. Rich Leonard. “Our curriculum and programming allow our students to learn by doing, and we are confident that it goes a long way in helping them to become successful professionals once they graduate and pass the bar.”
Although historically strong in practical training, Campbell Law has bolstered its experiential learning opportunities in recent years. Nearly 80 percent of recent graduates completed at least one externship, and more than 60 current third-year students participate in the Campbell Law Connections mentorship program in concert with the Wake County Bar Association. Campbell Law also offers three clinics — the Juvenile Justice Project, the Senior Law Clinic, and the Stubbs Bankruptcy Clinic — with more concepts currently in development.
Long regarded as a prominent advocacy program, Campbell Law student advocates competed for three national championships in 2013, winning the South Texas Mock Trial Challenge, and finished as national runners-up at the National Institute of Trial Advocacy’s’ Tournament of Champions this past October. Campbell Law’s Pro Bono Council, which regularly assists local community members in need, has added seven new projects in the past two years.
