Fresh off a tour of eastern North Carolina and the Outer Banks, the Campbell University Choir will present the annual spring concert on Tuesday, Mar. 28, at 8:00 p.m. in Scott Concert Hall of the Fine Arts Center. Admission is free and open to the public. The concert will feature a program of a cappella literature with a significant portion being settings of sacred texts. It will have a multi-cultural dimension, as well as selections from Zimbabwe, Kenya and Israel. “The choir is singing well and I am confident our audience will be treated to a wonderful evening of music,” said Phillip Morrow, conductor of Campbell’s choir. Highlights also include a selection of Latin compositions from the Roman church tradition, folk songs and selections from the gospel and spiritual traditions. “A piece by American composer Eric Whitacre, “Water Night,” takes a central focus in the program,” said Morrow. “It’s lush if sometimes strident harmonies, emotional power and compelling text have caused this piece to be frequently included on recent programs of choirs all over the world.” Students featured in the program include soloists Kayl Whitaker, a sophomore from Mocksville, N.C., and Liz Henderson, a senior from Asheboro, N.C., as well as student conductor, Aaron Jackson, a senior from Star, N.C. Elizabeth Oldham is the accompanist for the group.
