Buies Creek, N.C. – Frank H. Upchurch, Sr. will deliver the 2009 winter commencement address at Campbell University on Saturday, Dec. 12 at 10 a.m. at the John W. Pope Jr. Convocation Center.
A native of Fayetteville, Upchurch is the current president and CEO of the Georgia Baptist Health Care Ministry Foundation, an organization that provides financial support to acute care facilities, nursing homes, counseling centers and home health services through the Georgia Baptist Convention. He oversees all financial aspects of the health care foundation and coordinates fundraising efforts. Under his leadership, the Georgia Baptist Health Care System was converted to a foundation model.
Prior to his work with the health care system, Frank fostered a lasting relationship with his alma mater, Campbell University. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in government from Campbell in 1977 and served as director of Alumni Activities from 1978-1980 and director for Advancement from 1980-1986. He later became vice president for Advancement, instituting a seven year Century-Fund Campaign for the University. Frank was named a Distinguished Alumnus at Campbell University in 2001.
This is the second year that Campbell’s winter commencement ceremony will be held in the John W. Pope Jr. Convocation Center. The state-of-the-art, multi-purpose facility seats about 3,100 spectators for athletic events and up to 5,000 for special events such as concerts, graduation activities and other community gatherings.
An estimated 500 degrees are expected to be conferred during the commencement ceremony.
