Video: CPHS Graduate Honored as Campbell University Distinguished Alumni

Campbell University 2016 Winter Commencement

The Campbell University Alumni Association and its Board of Directors has recognized William T. Symonds, PharmD ’91, with the Campbell University Distinguished Alumni Award.
 

Symonds, a resident of Cary, North Carolina, has served as the senior vice president of clinical research at Roivant Sciences, Inc. since 2014. He also serves as a director of Arbutus Biopharma Corp., which focuses on developing a cure for chronic hepatitis B virus infection. Previously, he served as vice president of the Liver Disease Therapeutic Area at Gilead Sciences, Inc. from 2012 to 2014, and as senior vice president of clinical pharmacology and translational medicine at Pharmasset, Inc. from 2007 to 2012. Before that he worked at GlaxoSmithKline for nearly 15 years and rose to become director of antiviral clinical pharmacology and discovery medicine.
 

He’s a 1991 Doctor of Pharmacy graduate of Campbell University, where he serves on the College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences’ Dean’s Board of Advisors.
 

The Euclid, Ohio, native studied pre-pharmacy at the University of Tennessee and completed a fellowship in clinical pharmacokinetics at the Clinical Pharmacokinetics Laboratory in Buffalo, New York.
 

He and his wife, Melissa Lewis, have two children: Meghan and Allison, a pharmacy student at Campbell.
