Campbell University’s department of Religion and Philosophy is pleased to feature J. Brent Walker, who is the Executive Director of the Baptist Joint Committee for Religious Liberty, as this year’s annual Religion Department lecture speaker. The lecture will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 6, at 7pm at Memorial Baptist Church. Reverend Walker will speak on current issues regarding church and state studies. The lecture, titled “Telling the truth about church-state separation,” is free and open to the public. A reception and open dialogue time will follow the evening lecture.In addition to working for religious liberty through the Baptist Joint Committee, Walker is both a member of the Supreme Court Bar and an ordained minister. A native of Charleston, W.Va., he earned his bachelors and masters degrees from the University of Florida and also holds a J.D. degree from Stetson University College of Law. Walker also holds a Master of Divinity degree from Southern Seminary in Louisville, Ky. He has pastored Richland Baptist Church in Falmouth, Ky., and served as an adjunct professor of law at Georgetown University Law Center as well as adjunct professor at the Baptist Theological Seminary at Richmond.Walker has been widely published and routinely provides commentary on church and state issues in the national media. His wife Nancy is a pastor for congregational care at Columbia Baptist Church in Falls Church, Va.
