Ward and Smith, P.A. to sponsor mock trial team

RALEIGH, N.C. – Campbell Law Dean J. Rich Leonard announced today that Ward and Smith, P.A. has agreed to provide financial support for a competitive mock trial team. The firm’s gift will provide financial assistance for a group of Campbell Law students competing at the Buffalo Niagara Mock Trial Competition, Nov. 8-11, in Buffalo, New York.

“We are very appreciative of the financial support provided by our friends at Ward and Smith,” said Campbell Law Dean J. Rich Leonard. “This competition will allow our students to continue practicing and learning outside of the classroom in a courtroom environment, and the benefits of the experience will prove both fruitful and long lasting.”

With the support of State University of New York’s Buffalo Law School, the New York State Eighth Judicial District and the Bar Association of Erie County, the Buffalo Niagara Mock Trial Competition is one of the largest national invitational mock trial competitions in the country. More than 30 teams compete each year with law students trying both sides of a homicide case before a panel of experienced judges and trial attorneys. Student participants are required to perform opening statements, direct and cross examinations of witnesses, closing arguments and field objections based on the Federal Rules of Evidence.

With offices located throughout North Carolina, including Asheville, Greenville, New Bern, Raleigh and Wilmington, Ward and Smith’s attorneys are skilled in more than 30 practice areas, providing efficient results and effectively using technology.
