Wells Fargo donates another $50K for scholarship for Campbell trust students

WINSTON-SALEM, North Carolina — Campbell University received another donation of $50,000 from Wells Fargo Private Bank during the annual “Campbell Day” held Sept. 8 at the N.C. Trust Center in Winston-Salem. The gift will support the Wells Fargo Trust Scholarship the bank initially established in Septemeber 2012 to help women and minority students become trust majors at Campbell’s Lundy-Fetterman School of Business Trust & Wealth Management Program.

The 2014-2015 Wells Fargo Trust Scholarship went to Danielle Barnes, the second Campbell student to receive the award.

“We are very proud of the talented students that we have hired from Campbell’s Trust & Wealth Management Program,” said John Elliott, manager of the N.C. Trust Center in Winston-Salem for Wells Fargo Private Bank. “These students have chosen an exciting career and have received exceptional training that will set them on a course to be successful in the trust and wealth management profession.”

To date, Wells Fargo has invested $125,000 in the Campbell program, which is the only undergraduate trust program of its kind in the nation.

“We are delighted to have partnered with our friends at Wells Fargo for almost 50 years and further deepen that relationship by helping more students follow their dreams,” said Jimmy Witherspoon, director of Campbell’s trust program. “It’s another example of how the core values of Wells Fargo mirror the core values of Campbell University.

“It’s all about helping others lead a purpose-filled life — whether that’s helping students, associates or the community at large live a life of service and connect to something greater than themselves. And the spirit behind this scholarship support is an unwavering commitment to excellence, ethical conduct, professionalism, and doing the right thing.”

The Campbell students make the annual trip to learn about career options at Wells Fargo. Many end up applying for internships and later going on to careers with the company. This year, 101 students and seven faculty made the trip — hosted by nearly 60 team members who served as guides, presenters, and in other roles.

Since Campbell created the major in 1968, more than 220 alumni have joined Wells Fargo, including 24 at the N.C. Trust Center.
