Yonai receives Dean’s Excellence in Teaching award

Dr. Derek Yonai, of Raleigh, N.C., assistant professor of business at Campbell University, was selected to receive the Dean’s Excellence in Teaching Award from the Lundy Fetterman School of Business. Yonai serves as the Lundy Scholar of Business Philosophy. A native of southern Californian, Yonai holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of California at Irvine; a Juris Doctor, graduating cum laude, from Whittier Law School; and both a master’s in economics and a Ph.D. from George Mason University. He has also received several legal education awards. “As the Lundy Scholar, Dr. Yonai has demonstrated an unwavering commitment toward his students’ continued intellectual, academic and personal growth,” said Dr. Ben Hawkins, dean of the school of business. “He has worked diligently to provide a firm appreciation and respect for the market process and civil institutions and to develop an environment of interdisciplinary academic inquiry through his Politics, Law and Economics lecture series which brings scholars and policy experts to the school of business to enhance learning experience.” Yonai teaches Philosophy of Business in the undergraduate program and Business Law and Ethics in the Master of Business Administration program. He also serves as an advisor to over 30 undergraduates and as faculty advisor to the Adam Smith Free Enterprise Club. He is the current managing editor of “Straight-line,” a school of business publication, and serves on various university and business school committees. In addition, Yonai has designed a new economics degree program for Campbell business students.
