Campbell Law’s Brigitte Kelly ’23 named Wallace Fellow for Public Service
RALEIGH — Brigitte Kelly, a 2023 Campbell Law graduate, has been selected by an internal panel of law school faculty and staff as the newest Wallace Fellow, Dean J. Rich Leonard has announced. She began working at the law school in November. As the Wallace Public Service Fellow she assists in the management of Campbell Law’s pro bono programs, and works to conceptualize and seeks resources to further pro bono and clinical development.
During her time at Campbell Law, Kelly served as the Student Managing Director for the Pro Bono Council. She worked to support the student-led pro bono projects in their return from the COVID years. Kelly was awarded the Pro Bono Publico Award in the Spring 2023 Commencement Ceremony for her incredible efforts in encouraging student participation in pro bono opportunities. Recently, she has been recognized by the North Carolina State Bar for her promotion of pro bono opportunities in the Raleigh area.
Kelly earned her bachelor’s degree in political science from Appalachian State University in 2020. During her time at Appstate, Kelly served as the Student Body Vice President, Appol Corps Lead Director, and was a member of Kappa Delta sorority. She most recently served as an intern for the NC Department of Public Safety as well as a part-time legal assistant for Batch, Poore & Williams PC.
As a native to North Carolina, Kelly has grown up in the Raleigh area and is excited to continue to serve her community. In her time off from work, Kelly works as an adult tap teacher for Holly Springs School of Dance.
“I am delighted Brigitte will join our ranks this year as a Wallace Fellow,” Leonard explained. “The Wallace Fellows have become an indispensable part of our law school, allowing us to stretch our resources in creative ways.”
The Jerry M. Wallace Law Fellowship Program consists of full-time employment opportunities for recent graduates. The program is named in honor of Campbell University Chancellor Dr. Jerry Wallace, who served 12 years as university president before stepping down in June 2015. He remains an integral part of the selection process and is engaged with each fellow.
